The Bawdrip End-of-Summer Bar-B-Q on 6th September 2015 was a great success and in fact looks like it heralded the start of another Indian Summer. We were fully prepared for a wet event with two marquees (thank you Cossington) and plenty of tables and chairs including a fine new set of ‘bistro’ chairs. In the event the day was probably one of the sunniest of the summer and most people sat out enjoying the warmth not only of the sun but the buzzing atmosphere on the Village Green.
All the chefs had worked extremely hard preparing a wide variety of salads and of course pre-cooking 160 sausages and 80 beef burgers (sourced our local butcher in Puriton) and an amazing collection of desserts. Our chefs then worked hard at the bar-b-q and ensured that the queue didn’t get too long as they kept a constant supply of hot food available.
Many thanks to Jenny and her team for all the food preparation, to all those who turned out to help collect tables and chairs and of course put everything back and to those who just pitched in and helped serve the food and to Jane H. who again opened up her kitchen and all those who gravitated to the ‘workhouse’ and seemed to spend the afternoon washing-up!
And of course thank you to everyone who turned out to support the event which, including the raffle, raised a fantastic £510 which will go towards church funds. For those who are interested we have a building survey every 5 years and the latest one has highlighted some work needs to be done that we are now starting to address.
