Greek Night February 2012
A dedicated team of volunteers met at the Parish Hall on the morning of Saturday 25th Feb. The task in hand was to transform a Somerset village hall into a Greek island. A tall order but the team worked hard by lunchtime a pretty good job had been done. The team also had a chance to practice some dance moves listening to Zorba the Greek.
When the guests arrived in the evening they were met with a shot of Ouzo before they made their way to the tables that had be laid out as two long trestles. Above the tables fairy lights and various ornaments were suspended in a large fishing net. There was a small beach with sand in the corner!
The tables have an assortment of olives, houmos, tzaziki and pitta bread. The main meal was a choice of different mousaccas with salads and bread. The dessert was based on Greek yoghurt with chopped hazlenuts. Whilst everyone at, they were accompanied by Greek music and scenes from around Greece were displayed on the high-tech screen on the stage!
After everyone had eaten their fill there was more music and some dancing and plenty of singing as everyone joined in with their Abba favourites. Many people had also taken the time and effort to dress for the theme as well! The event was a great success raising £250 for general church funds and it was the first time in a long time that we have sold out.
